This place shall forever be the greatest Bar / Saloon / Family Restaurant known to grace this planet Earth. Friendly waitstaff eager to provide you with excellent service. Amazing bartenders that pour fantastic drinks to one of the toughest crowds in the state of Oregon. Surly locals that won't take a lick of sass from any city folk. And hands down the most amazing decor you will ever experience in any establishment. Bear cage for patio seating in the front and a horseshoes pit in the back during the summer time. If you haven't stopped in for a Char - burger and gator taters you're surely missing out.

If it hadn't been for my faith in yelp, I never would've walked in this place, but I am so glad that I did! After visiting Timberline Lodge, we were looking for a place to eat on our way back to Portland. Government Camp is a small town at the bottom of the ski lift to Timberline Lodge. It was pretty abandoned looking, but that is to be expected for a ski town on a Sunday in August. Charlie's looks like a typical biker bar from the front, complete with regulars smoking and propping the place up on the front patio. Inside is a wood paneled, lodge looking restaurant with mostly large tables to accommodate the ski crowds. The two of us took over a big table overlooking the gorgeous view out of the one back window. We seemed to be there right in between shifts because the person who started our order was on his way out and service was really slow. The first server was super friendly and assured us that we would be helped. We shared a coconut appetizer, an off menu pear salad (requested from the yelp reviews) and the mushroom burger. Everything was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. Coming from the bay area where a meal like that would've cost double, I really appreciated the laid back atmosphere with inexpensive, delicious food.

Don't know about the food yet but the wait time is ridiculous. You can literally die from hunger at this place if you didn't have enough energy reserves. Just where I wanted to spend an hour and a half of my day. I agree with the other comment that McDonalds would beat this place hands down.

Bad vibes to start: We walked in to dirty tables, no one to tell us where to sit or give us menus. We finally saw a staff member and asked for a couple waters. We continued to wait 25min for him to come back and take our order, he never did. There were only 3 other tables, the table next to us who had arrived after us got up and left before ordering. He took the order for the table behind us told us he would 'be right back' about 3 times as he would walk by. The last straw was when he sat down with one of his friends at the table next to us and proceeded to discuss a remodeling project. We got up and left and went to the restaurant across the street.

The first thing that came to my mind when I entered this restaurant was Robert Duvall saying: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning". Not that I know what napalm smells like or that I liked what I smelled upon entering this joint. My little girl pinched her nose and started protesting: "What stinks?" The strong scent of pinesol and clorox was heavy enough to embalm a body. We went to the back of the restaurant to see if we could tolerate it. It was better, or by then our noses might have gotten accustomed to it. The kids were hungry from playing in the snow and I didn't want to keep searching. There are not many options around and going back to Hood River would have been about an hour. I ordered chicken tenders for the kids and a greek hamburger with a side salad for me. My husband had the muffaletta. The food came out, the tenders were your typical Sysco products. My hamburger was not horrible, however the salad was devoid of any crunch, the poor leaves lay limp on the side of my plate. They looked so sad. I know next time I come to play in the snow, I better pack a picnic basket.

They had a garden burger that was good. Service wasn't bad........it was non-existent.....wow talk about feeling like you got in people's way by entering their restaurant. Food was good , but we would never go back. Beyond rude......weird.

If I could go for 0 stars I would. It was a pretty slow night for a Saturday but I had heard great things and seen them on a list of best apré anything. We were seated and after waiting a while to have our order taken, the waitress finally came and asked what we would like for drinks. We ordered 2 bloody Mary's (no special order just two of the same house bloody Mary's), we were concerned by the amount of time she took to ask us what we wanted to drink so we made our dinner order at the same time. Club sandwich and prime rib dip. About 15 minutes later the waitress returned to tell us she couldn't remember what we ordered to drink. And then our food arrived. My boyfriend loved his club sandwich, I was displeased by the wonderbread on the prime rib but the fries and the potato skins were amazing. In walked a party of 8. As there was only one other table in the restaurant it didn't seem like things were getting crazy but after our cocktails were brought to us (long after we had finished dinner) the waitress told us if we needed anything, to speak now or it won't happen because she's going to be "too busy helping them". That wasn't even the worst. Clearly she hated her job that night but then we watched one of the cooks blow his nose into a towel while standing over the grill. And then sticking it back in his pocket and proceeding to cook without even washing his hands. I was bummed that this experience was so crummy. I hear they have a good nightlife/music scene but whatever you do. Don't order food unless you're a fan of mucus and maybe stick to staying over in the bar section.

This is a great place for a night of going out and drinking with your friends and family. The bartenders weren't especially friendly, but it was very busy both nights. Prices were good for drinks. Everyone at Charlie's was in great spirits, despite the lack of snow on the mountain. Both nights we were hung out here, there was a pretty even mix of young twenty somethings and older locals. One night there was a live band and all of the older women were dancing with the young guys. It was quite a scene. My only regret is that we didn't get any food.

Great mountain top dive bar, with the views you would expect being mountain top. Entering in, it feels like any run of the meal dive bar, even bordering on slightly campy feeling. But looks can be deceiving, and here they are. The food is way better than most dive bars, but doesn't have a larger price tag like you might expect. The service has never been less than exceptional, and they are very accommodating to food and beverage substitutions. I literally drive from Portland just to eat here, no other reason for coming all the way here then to eat here and go back to Portland. The BLT, Bacon Cheese Burger, and Fish & Chips are all really really good. You definitely need to check this place out if you're in the area.

You're more interested in offering deplorable customer service and belittling your clientele. OK cool. Say, can I eat the giant chip on your shoulder for dinner? I made guacamole, and really don't want to see it go to waste. At a landmark establishment such as Charlie's, we expected to be treated suitably. Charlie's is the jump-off. This is by no means an anti-Charlie's review. This is an anti-Charlie's bartender review. She's a living monster and has no place in the customer service industry. For now, we'll call her "Shayla." All nine of us are nice people. We pay taxes, work hard, and distribute our collective wealth among the townspeople of our chosen vacation destinations. But simple miscommunications lead to an ignorant, unprofessional, and unwarranted display by Shayla, which forced us to Ratskeller; a neighboring bar. Maybe she had a hard day. Maybe she had a hard year. But there is no justification for Shayla's behavior last night, and subsequent treatment she offered to her new and excited patrons. I hail from Portland, the land of terrible service. And I can say with unequivocal certainty that this is the single worst customer service experience of my 28 years in this state. Shayla hates fun. You have been warned.

I'm reviewing the family side. Both times we've gone here the food is excellent, the service is friendly accommodating and understated. Not in your face but always magically there when you need something. Kind and helpful. I ordered steak and my husband ordered the blue cheese burger. Both were excellent! Generous quantities and steak (perfect medium) served with high quality salad and fresh seasonal veggie's (asparagus, this time, cooked perfectly al dente), and a starch of your choice. Burger is high quality, no off flavors with bacon, blue cheese, fresh tomatoes, and red peppers which really added something special. I am surprised for a "dive" bar how fresh their ingredients are. I am usually not easily pleased at restaurants, but this place is awesome. Thanks!

Charlie's weekend breakfast is the bees knees. From 8am to 11am get the most delicious and least expensive food in Govy. I'm a monster but so is the breakfast burrito, that thing fuels me all day!

This review is for the chowder: So, me and the fam went to the "family side" on a late summer night after visiting the mountain. I was SO surprised by the young chef. The clam chowder was really clammy and well seasoned. Everyone coveted my chowder. Servicemtook forever because 3 bridal parties had swamped the bar area. But yeah, I did not expect great chowder to come from a mountaintop bar. (Also, Mom said she liked her grilled chicken sandwich)

Great locals bar with a variety of bartenders and music selection. Don't like the current bartender or music, wait a few hours and it all changes. Go for weekend breakfast starting at 8am and the friendly bartender JJ will serve you good drinks and bottomless coffee. Only complaint is that he is famous for his crop dusting.

Charlie's is both a dive bar and family restaurant. The atmosphere is rustic: to the right is a separate dining area that is family friendly, to the left is the 21+ bar area with pool tables, dart boards, etc. The menu is small and hearty. The food comes out pretty slow so be prepared to savor the beers on tap while you wait. The prices are reasonable and the service is efficient. We have had every dish on the dinner menu and all were pretty good, especially for the location and type of restaurant. The standout dishes were the Oyster Shooters, ribeye steaks and prime rib special. The were very accommodating to the picky eater in our group. They practically made a new dish to satisfy her requirements. This is something I wouldn't expect a dive bar to do.

Where do I start??? Only 1 bartender and 1 waitress when the bar is packed. After all, it's Christmas week at Mt. Hood! We're waiting in line, finally get up to order 2 pints and when we asked what they are offering on tap, all we get is a shrug and a sweep of the bartender's hand over the taps. We looked and placed our order then made the mistake of asking for a menu which he tossed to us. Very personable. Not !!! Once we decided what we wanted we had to go back up to the rude bartender and gave him our order. You'd hope the bad stops here, but no. Our burgers arrive: my husband's burger is OK, but fries are cold. My burger is cold, the lettuce on the burger consisted of 2 romaine leaves, the tomatoes were 1/2" thick and we had to ask for the onion rings we had ordered. When we were ready to pay our bill, once again my husband had to go to the bar and the bartender couldn't locate our tab because he forgot how he filed it. McDonald's would have been better and sadly that doesn't say much.

I was very disappointed after our experience here. Our friends had talked the place up for breakfast and we were excited to try it. We arrived at 10:50 am but our server didn't attempt to take our order until 11:02am. He informed us no breakfast after 11. We were the only ones in the place. The server didn't attempt to see if we could still get breakfast. We settled on lunch and it was average at best. I was never offered a refill on my coffee and had to ask for cream. When I finally got some cream it was just a drop left in the container. Just awful service and again, we were the only ones there. Server seemed bothered that we interrupted his quite morning. We will go someplace else in the future.

Best place to eat up on Mt. Hood. On your way back from the slopes you have to stop here. The menu is bigger than you'd expect a small place to have, which usually is a bad thing, but not here. They seem to do everything right! Their prime rib sandwich is killer. If this was any closer to my house I'd be a regular!

Decent food and inexpensive. The jalapeño poppers, fish n chips and mushroom burger are great. Nice selection of beers on tap - only $4 for a pint of microbrew. Beware , it's definitely more of a biker bar than restaurant but stick it out, it's worth sitting in the intense atmosphere for great food.

Was visiting Mt. Hood and saw the great reviews for Charlie's and had to stop for lunch. I had a fabulous BLT and the kids portions of chicken fingers were generous. The only downside was the single employee manning the restaurant. It took a while to get the orders taken, then a little while longer for the food (not too bad, though), but the wait for the check verged on irritating. If there were only one more person there to help out, this would be 5 star.

Service was awesome. Very friendly, very accommodating, and helpful. I got the asparagus salad after reading someone from Yelp got it....I LOVED the asparagus part, but the salad part of meh. I wish the salad had more asparagus and less leaves.... I got this rolled pasta thingy filled with tomato sauce, cheese, and spinach. It was pretty good. The portion size was huge....way too much food for small lil me. Oh, don't get the pinot noir though...that was pretty gross.

The fam spent the 4th of July holiday weekend at Mt. Hood and after a day flying down the alpine slide and scaling new heights on the zip lines, we were completely famished and, thanks to my fellow Yelpers, we stopped at Charlie's Mountain view for "linner" (i.e. lunch/dinner). The restaurant side is small and plain, however don't let first impressions fool you. The food and service are great! We ordered a variety of sandwichs and pizza - all were good sized for the price. The one downer was that they were pretty busy in the pizza department so those of us who ordered sammiches ate first and then had to wait for the pizza peeps to get their food and eat, but it was worth it. (We weren't in a hurry anyway). We'd definitely be back.

After reading many good reviews about Charlie's, I hate to be a Debbie Downer but here I go. We walked in and the places looked to be a "locals" hangout. The kind of place we look for when traveling. We weren't greeted when we came in, no big deal. The guy at the bar finally noticed we were at a table and brought us menus and asked us what we wanted to drink. After bringing our drinks over he took our order without writing it down. Needless to say the order was a bit messed up. My husband asked for grilled onions for his burger and I ordered a prime rib sandwich without cheese. The burger came out correct but I was served a prime rib dip with grilled onions. Not what I ordered. We still had 2 and a half hour drive to get home so I didn't want to wait for a reorder. The prime rib was good but a bit too salty of my taste.

This is the perfect, divey place to stop after a long hike. The service was friendly. I should have gone with the fish and chips, but went with the bartender's second choice, the tuna melt. If I weren't driving, it would have been the best spot to throw back a few. The cooks and servers were full of respect -- friendly and accommodating. Not only does this place REEK of urine and stale cigarette smoke, we never got served after sitting in the "restaurant"before 10 minutes, then moving to a table in the bar for 12 minutes! After waiting for that amount of time, we left to shouts from the bartender to "go back to Portland!" Usually if I were to come to this place I would fit the description of it's average cliental, someone who just came off the Mountain, who was looking for a quick high calorie lunch.....As it was I hadn't gone up to govi that day to go skiing and I was just passing through. I was not ravenous with hunger and yet the food was simply amazing. I know that places can mess up hamburgers so when something so simple is put together so well I have to give due appreciation. I can't imagine the food having tasted any better than it did and yet I know that if I had been skiing that day the food would have tasted better and I am jealous of the boarder's who came in behind us because I know that they got the full force of the experience. Good burger, good fries, friendly service, clean bathrooms, clorox sterilized tables.....what more could you ask for?

One of my favorite bars on planet Earth. Charlie's is the place to be after a great day on the mountain, especially in the summer time after a session at High Cascade. $2 cans of Rainier go down smooth and the whole town shows up. Unless you're a skier. They go to the rat. Thankfully. The mood is always good, the drinks are cheap and you can get beer to go. Many a nights have been wasted and blackout forgotten at Charlie's, you should make sure you get one of those nights there as well.

The look almost fooled me. Normally, I would stay away from dive bars but when you were sort of in the middle of nowhere around dinner time on sunday evening, your choices were quite limited. Out of places around Government Camp, this has the highest yelp rating (that was opened) so our hungry tummies took over :) You can get in from the bar area or dining room area. Patio was opened but after waiting for few minutes, we found out that no one will take your order unless you went inside to the bar. You can find typical bar food: burgers, sandwiches but they also have specials. We ordered 2 salads from the special (fresh mozzarella salad and grilled pear salad), swiss mushroom burger, and one of the fish entree. The salads were yummy and refreshing! the burger was good but I didn't care much for the fries that they gave with the burger. Some were cold and felt stale. The fish dish was pretty good. Pan fried fish with basmati rice and steamed broccoli on the side. Simple and filling. Maybe a bit too much of butter on the fish but overall, the food was good. i'll be coming back again next time

What everyone else said...don't let the looks fool you. Prices are by far cheaper than comparable places in town and the quality is great for a dive bar. We were there on quiet midweek summer day. It's easy to imagine that this place gets busy. The menu is fairly by the book, but the specials can be off the hook. Definitely a diamond in the rough.

Our family love's Charlie's - this place is the heart of Government Camp. The building was Darr's Ski Shop before Charlie moved in from the Rat. Every inch of this place is a testament to Alpine joy! Great drinks, fantastic food, sweet view of Hood, ski bum heaven. Charlie is gone but this place still is "the place"!

Love this place when I head up to Government Camp. It can get a bit loud but heck, it's a bar on a mountain, full of skiers and snowboarders so I can of expect it. Good beer selection, nice and friendly staff. Unless you're lucky you probably won't ever get to play pool here but meh, that's fine. Never a wait when I need a drink. Haven't tried the food but then, that's not why I go here.

The food here is amazing! My best friend has a lot of food restrictions, and the cook and sever JJ was able to be extremely accomodating. Everything was delicious (and we've been known to be rather picky). The service was fantastic as well! I had the steak for dinner and it was cooked perfectly. Also, if you have a chance to get anything with asparagus, it is incredible! We will be coming back here the next time we're in this neck of the words!

Terrible wait for pizza, we waited almost 2 hours for a pizza, which is ridiculous. There were 4 of us eating, 2 ordered pizza to share and 2 of us ordered hamburgers. We finished eating our hamburgers and still had to wait more than 30 minutes for the pizza to come. It's not really that fun to have to watch someone eat and then have them watch you. It was terrible service. And the worst part was, the server didn't feel bad about it at all. It seemed like an every day event to him. In regards to the food, the burgers were very good, but the fries were awful, the potato soup tasted like water. The pizza was decent, but there is no way I would come back to this place again, even with the limited options in Government Camp.

Awesome hamburger, seriously. Took a minute or two to get menus, but then service was pretty good. There was a bar I wandered into to check what beers were on tap, but I didn't hang out in there. Good selection of beer though; no surprise, this is the northwest. Good hummus. Supposedly onion rings are good, but didn't try them. Next time. The place seemed kinda dingy, but you know what? I don't much care about that.

Winter - dependable Apres Ski entertainment...and consistent party mode until close (be on the look out for the non-elusive Govey Cougars). Watch your step heading out the front door, the first one is a doozey. Summer - Big seating area out front to watch the govey summer traffic and horse shoes out back. COLD beer - MMMM. ** Charlie's is not known for it's fine dining if you get my drift - but the drinks are always good.

Awesome dive bar where drinks are aplenty and cheap. There is a pool table, lots of leather couches and a jukebox. Perfect apres-ski venue. The bathrooms are dirty but the service is great, and the place just has such a laid back, Cheers-like vibe going on. The food is mostly fried and bad for you, but it's so good! To the reviewer below me: Charlie's *is* a family reunion! If you've ever worked at Mt. Hood, this is the spot. Rainer tall cans are the best deal in the house, and at least pseudo-local. The bartenders tend to know everybody. The food smells really greasy...but the breakfast bloody marys are awfully tasty the next morning.

There is only one pool table but fortunately there isn't a lot of competition to get it. We will be sure to come back again for a lazy time.

Every time I come here I am always amazed at how nice the staff is and how cheap the tab is at the end of the night. If you go to the Hood to snowboard or ski then stop by Charlie's. If you here on Mondays go for the 3 4 3 tacos. Not a bad snack with a few cold ones. I have also had the Ruben several times and I always dig it. Had the fish and chips today and that was also great and lots to eat.. I'm not much in to dive bars but Charlie's is a legend in these parts and he's got it going on with this place...

they had good music the night we went. the drinks were ridiculously (high) priced. the place smells. and the worst part was the fraudulent charge to my credit card i discovered two days later. i called charlie and was assured it would be resolved and i would receive a call. neither happened. my advice, if you have to go there don't use your debit or credit card. and ask how much the drinks are before you buy a round for you and your friends.

Good selection of beer though; no surprise, this is the northwest. Good hummus. Supposedly onion rings are good, but didn't try them. Next time. The place seemed kinda dingy, but you know what? I don't much care about that.

Awesome after-skiing stop for a drink. It's a true mountain bar, aka total dive-a-licious. If you're looking for fun and a lil' trouble, this is your stop. The food is so-so, but it's what you would expect for a bar. Don't forget to order at the bar or you might be waiting for awhile.

If you are not fond of dirty dive bars keep walking half a block to the Rat-Fir, Charlie won't miss you and they'll be happy to take your money. Winter - dependable Apres Ski entertainment...and consistent party mode until close (be on the look out for the non-elusive Govey Cougars). Watch your step heading out the front door, the first one is a doozey. Summer - Big seating area out front to watch the govey summer traffic and horse shoes out back. COLD beer - MMMM. ** Charlie's is not known for it's fine dining if you get my drift - but the drinks are always good.

To the reviewer below me: Charlie's *is* a family reunion! If you've ever worked at Mt. Hood, this is the spot. Rainer tall cans are the best deal in the house, and at least pseudo-local. The bartenders tend to know everybody. The food smells really greasy...but the breakfast bloody marys are awfully tasty the next morning.

Terrible wait for pizza, we waited almost 2 hours for a pizza, which is ridiculous. There were 4 of us eating, 2 ordered pizza to share and 2 of us ordered hamburgers. We finished eating our hamburgers and still had to wait more than 30 minutes for the pizza to come. It's not really that fun to have to watch someone eat and then have them watch you. It was terrible service. And the worst part was, the server didn't feel bad about it at all. It seemed like an every day event to him. In regards to the food, the burgers were very good, but the fries were awful, the potato soup tasted like water. The pizza was decent, but there is no way I would come back to this place again, even with the limited options in Government Camp.

If I could go for 0 stars I would. It was a pretty slow night for a Saturday but I had heard great things and seen them on a list of best apré anything. We were seated and after waiting a while to have our order taken, the waitress finally came and asked what we would like for drinks. We ordered 2 bloody Mary's (no special order just two of the same house bloody Mary's), we were concerned by the amount of time she took to ask us what we wanted to drink so we made our dinner order at the same time. Club sandwich and prime rib dip. About 15 minutes later the waitress returned to tell us she couldn't remember what we ordered to drink. And then our food arrived. My boyfriend loved his club sandwich, I was displeased by the wonderbread on the prime rib but the fries and the potato skins were amazing. In walked a party of 8. As there was only one other table in the restaurant it didn't seem like things were getting crazy but after our cocktails were brought to us (long after we had finished dinner) the waitress told us if we needed anything, to speak now or it won't happen because she's going to be "too busy helping them". That wasn't even the worst. Clearly she hated her job that night but then we watched one of the cooks blow his nose into a towel while standing over the grill. And then sticking it back in his pocket and proceeding to cook without even washing his hands. I was bummed that this experience was so crummy. I hear they have a good nightlife/music scene but whatever you do. Don't order food unless you're a fan of mucus and maybe stick to staying over in the bar section.

This is a great place for a night of going out and drinking with your friends and family. The bartenders weren't especially friendly, but it was very busy both nights. Prices were good for drinks. Everyone at Charlie's was in great spirits, despite the lack of snow on the mountain. Both nights we were hung out here, there was a pretty even mix of young twenty somethings and older locals. One night there was a live band and all of the older women were dancing with the young guys. It was quite a scene. My only regret is that we didn't get any food.

Great mountain top dive bar, with the views you would expect being mountain top. Entering in, it feels like any run of the meal dive bar, even bordering on slightly campy feeling. But looks can be deceiving, and here they are. The food is way better than most dive bars, but doesn't have a larger price tag like you might expect. The service has never been less than exceptional, and they are very accommodating to food and beverage substitutions. I literally drive from Portland just to eat here, no other reason for coming all the way here then to eat here and go back to Portland. I made guacamole, and really don't want to see it go to waste. At a landmark establishment such as Charlie's, we expected to be treated suitably. Charlie's is the jump-off. This is by no means an anti-Charlie's review. This is an anti-Charlie's bartender review. She's a living monster and has no place in the customer service industry. For now, we'll call her "Shayla." All nine of us are nice people. We pay taxes, work hard, and distribute our collective wealth among the townspeople of our chosen vacation destinations. But simple miscommunications lead to an ignorant, unprofessional, and unwarranted display by Shayla, which forced us to Ratskeller; a neighboring bar. Maybe she had a hard day. Maybe she had a hard year. But there is no justification for Shayla's behavior last night, and subsequent treatment she offered to her new and excited patrons. I hail from Portland, the land of terrible service. And I can say with unequivocal certainty that this is the single worst customer service experience of my 28 years in this state. Shayla hates fun. You have been warned.

I'm reviewing the family side. Both times we've gone here the food is excellent, the service is friendly accommodating and understated. Not in your face but always magically there when you need something. Kind and helpful. I ordered steak and my husband ordered the blue cheese burger. Both were excellent! Generous quantities and steak (perfect medium) served with high quality salad and fresh seasonal veggie's (asparagus, this time, cooked perfectly al dente), and a starch of your choice. Burger is high quality, no off flavors with bacon, blue cheese, fresh tomatoes, and red peppers which really added something special. I am surprised for a "dive" bar how fresh their ingredients are. I am usually not easily pleased at restaurants, but this place is awesome. Thanks!

This review is for the chowder: So, me and the fam went to the "family side" on a late summer night after visiting the mountain. I was SO surprised by the young chef. The clam chowder was really clammy and well seasoned. Everyone coveted my chowder. Servicemtook forever because 3 bridal parties had swamped the bar area. But yeah, I did not expect great chowder to come from a mountaintop bar. (Also, Mom said she liked her grilled chicken sandwich)

If it hadn't been for my faith in yelp, I never would've walked in this place, but I am so glad that I did! After visiting Timberline Lodge, we were looking for a place to eat on our way back to Portland. Government Camp is a small town at the bottom of the ski lift to Timberline Lodge. It was pretty abandoned looking, but that is to be expected for a ski town on a Sunday in August. Charlie's looks like a typical biker bar from the front, complete with regulars smoking and propping the place up on the front patio. Inside is a wood paneled, lodge looking restaurant with mostly large tables to accommodate the ski crowds. The two of us took over a big table overlooking the gorgeous view out of the one back window. We seemed to be there right in between shifts because the person who started our order was on his way out and service was really slow. The first server was super friendly and assured us that we would be helped. We shared a coconut appetizer, an off menu pear salad (requested from the yelp reviews) and the mushroom burger. Everything was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. Coming from the bay area where a meal like that would've cost double, I really appreciated the laid back atmosphere with inexpensive, delicious food.

Bad vibes to start: We walked in to dirty tables, no one to tell us where to sit or give us menus. We finally saw a staff member and asked for a couple waters. We continued to wait 25min for him to come back and take our order, he never did. There were only 3 other tables, the table next to us who had arrived after us got up and left before ordering. He took the order for the table behind us told us he would 'be right back' about 3 times as he would walk by. The last straw was when he sat down with one of his friends at the table next to us and proceeded to discuss a remodeling project. We got up and left and went to the restaurant across the street.

The first thing that came to my mind when I entered this restaurant was Robert Duvall saying: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning". Not that I know what napalm smells like or that I liked what I smelled upon entering this joint. My little girl pinched her nose and started protesting: "What stinks?" The strong scent of pinesol and clorox was heavy enough to embalm a body. We went to the back of the restaurant to see if we could tolerate it. It was better, or by then our noses might have gotten accustomed to it. The kids were hungry from playing in the snow and I didn't want to keep searching. There are not many options around and going back to Hood River would have been about an hour. I ordered chicken tenders for the kids and a greek hamburger with a side salad for me. My husband had the muffaletta. The food came out, the tenders were your typical Sysco products. My hamburger was not horrible, however the salad was devoid of any crunch, the poor leaves lay limp on the side of my plate. They looked so sad. I know next time I come to play in the snow, I better pack a picnic basket.

This is the perfect, divey place to stop after a long hike. The service was friendly. I should have gone with the fish and chips, but went with the bartender's second choice, the tuna melt. If I weren't driving, it would have been the best spot to throw back a few. The cooks and servers were full of respect -- friendly and accommodating. The bathrooms are dirty but the service is great, and the place just has such a laid back, Cheers-like vibe going on. The food is mostly fried and bad for you, but it's so good! Charlie's is both a dive bar and family restaurant. The atmosphere is rustic: to the right is a separate dining area that is family friendly, to the left is the 21+ bar area with pool tables, dart boards, etc. The menu is small and hearty. The food comes out pretty slow so be prepared to savor the beers on tap while you wait. The prices are reasonable and the service is efficient. We have had every dish on the dinner menu and all were pretty good, especially for the location and type of restaurant. The standout dishes were the Oyster Shooters, ribeye steaks and prime rib special. The were very accommodating to the picky eater in our group. They practically made a new dish to satisfy her requirements. This is something I wouldn't expect a dive bar to do.

Where do I start??? Only 1 bartender and 1 waitress when the bar is packed. After all, it's Christmas week at Mt. Hood! We're waiting in line, finally get up to order 2 pints and when we asked what they are offering on tap, all we get is a shrug and a sweep of the bartender's hand over the taps. We looked and placed our order then made the mistake of asking for a menu which he tossed to us. Very personable. Not !!! Once we decided what we wanted we had to go back up to the rude bartender and gave him our order. You'd hope the bad stops here, but no. Our burgers arrive: my husband's burger is OK, but fries are cold. My burger is cold, the lettuce on the burger consisted of 2 romaine leaves, the tomatoes were 1/2" thick and we had to ask for the onion rings we had ordered. When we were ready to pay our bill, once again my husband had to go to the bar and the bartender couldn't locate our tab because he forgot how he filed it. McDonald's would have been better and sadly that doesn't say much.

Usually if I were to come to this place I would fit the description of it's average cliental, someone who just came off the Mountain, who was looking for a quick high calorie lunch.....As it was I hadn't gone up to govi that day to go skiing and I was just passing through. I was not ravenous with hunger and yet the food was simply amazing. I know that places can mess up hamburgers so when something so simple is put together so well I have to give due appreciation. I can't imagine the food having tasted any better than it did and yet I know that if I had been skiing that day the food would have tasted better and I am jealous of the boarder's who came in behind us because I know that they got the full force of the experience. Good burger, good fries, friendly service, clean bathrooms, clorox sterilized tables.....what more could you ask for?

One of my favorite bars on planet Earth. Charlie's is the place to be after a great day on the mountain, especially in the summer time after a session at High Cascade. $2 cans of Rainier go down smooth and the whole town shows up. Unless you're a skier. They go to the rat. Thankfully. The mood is always good, the drinks are cheap and you can get beer to go. Many a nights have been wasted and blackout forgotten at Charlie's, you should make sure you get one of those nights there as well.

The look almost fooled me. Normally, I would stay away from dive bars but when you were sort of in the middle of nowhere around dinner time on sunday evening, your choices were quite limited. Out of places around Government Camp, this has the highest yelp rating (that was opened) so our hungry tummies took over :) You can get in from the bar area or dining room area. Patio was opened but after waiting for few minutes, we found out that no one will take your order unless you went inside to the bar. You can find typical bar food: burgers, sandwiches but they also have specials. We ordered 2 salads from the special (fresh mozzarella salad and grilled pear salad), swiss mushroom burger, and one of the fish entree. The salads were yummy and refreshing! the burger was good but I didn't care much for the fries that they gave with the burger. Some were cold and felt stale. The fish dish was pretty good. Pan fried fish with basmati rice and steamed broccoli on the side. Simple and filling. Maybe a bit too much of butter on the fish but overall, the food was good. i'll be coming back again next time

What everyone else said...don't let the looks fool you. Prices are by far cheaper than comparable places in town and the quality is great for a dive bar. We were there on quiet midweek summer day. Our family love's Charlie's - this place is the heart of Government Camp. The building was Darr's Ski Shop before Charlie moved in from the Rat. Every inch of this place is a testament to Alpine joy! I was very disappointed after our experience here. Our friends had talked the place up for breakfast and we were excited to try it. We arrived at 10:50 am but our server didn't attempt to take our order until 11:02am. He informed us no breakfast after 11. We were the only ones in the place. The server didn't attempt to see if we could still get breakfast. We settled on lunch and it was average at best. I was never offered a refill on my coffee and had to ask for cream. When I finally got some cream it was just a drop left in the container. Just awful service and again, we were the only ones there. Server seemed bothered that we interrupted his quite morning. We will go someplace else in the future.

Best place to eat up on Mt. Hood. On your way back from the slopes you have to stop here. The menu is bigger than you'd expect a small place to have, which usually is a bad thing, but not here. Was visiting Mt. Hood and saw the great reviews for Charlie's and had to stop for lunch. I had a fabulous BLT and the kids portions of chicken fingers were generous. The only downside was the single employee manning the restaurant. It took a while to get the orders taken, then a little while longer for the food (not too bad, though), but the wait for the check verged on irritating. If there were only one more person there to help out, this would be 5 star.

The fam spent the 4th of July holiday weekend at Mt. Hood and after a day flying down the alpine slide and scaling new heights on the zip lines, we were completely famished and, thanks to my fellow Yelpers, we stopped at Charlie's Mountain view for "linner" (i.e. lunch/dinner). The restaurant side is small and plain, however don't let first impressions fool you. The food and service are great! We ordered a variety of sandwichs and pizza - all were good sized for the price. The one downer was that they were pretty busy in the pizza department so those of us who ordered sammiches ate first and then had to wait for the pizza peeps to get their food and eat, but it was worth it. (We weren't in a hurry anyway). We'd definitely be back.

After reading many good reviews about Charlie's, I hate to be a Debbie Downer but here I go. We walked in and the places looked to be a "locals" hangout. The kind of place we look for when traveling. We weren't greeted when we came in, no big deal. The guy at the bar finally noticed we were at a table and brought us menus and asked us what we wanted to drink. After bringing our drinks over he took our order without writing it down. Needless to say the order was a bit messed up. My husband asked for grilled onions for his burger and I ordered a prime rib sandwich without cheese. The burger came out correct but I was served a prime rib dip with grilled onions. Not what I ordered. We still had 2 and a half hour drive to get home so I didn't want to wait for a reorder. The prime rib was good but a bit too salty of my taste.

The food here is amazing! My best friend has a lot of food restrictions, and the cook and sever JJ was able to be extremely accomodating. Everything was delicious (and we've been known to be rather picky). The service was fantastic as well! I had the steak for dinner and it was cooked perfectly. Also, if you have a chance to get anything with asparagus, it is incredible! We will be coming back here the next time we're in this neck of the words!

Love this place when I head up to Government Camp. It can get a bit loud but heck, it's a bar on a mountain, full of skiers and snowboarders so I can of expect it. Good beer selection, nice and friendly staff. Unless you're lucky you probably won't ever get to play pool here but meh, that's fine. Never a wait when I need a drink. Haven't tried the food but then, that's not why I go here.

Terrible wait for pizza, we waited almost 2 hours for a pizza, which is ridiculous. There were 4 of us eating, 2 ordered pizza to share and 2 of us ordered hamburgers. We finished eating our hamburgers and still had to wait more than 30 minutes for the pizza to come. It's not really that fun to have to watch someone eat and then have them watch you. It was terrible service. And the worst part was, the server didn't feel bad about it at all. It seemed like an every day event to him. In regards to the food, the burgers were very good, but the fries were awful, the potato soup tasted like water. The pizza was decent, but there is no way I would come back to this place again, even with the limited options in Government Camp.

When my buddies and I were camping on Mt Hood and ran out of beer, we made a little trip to Charlie's and it was totally worth it. The bar tender was super friendly, the atmosphere was awesome. We really enjoyed ourselves:) Thanks for being there when we ran out of booze :)

Awesome hamburger, seriously. Took a minute or two to get menus, but then service was pretty good. There was a bar I wandered into to check what beers were on tap, but I didn't hang out in there. Good selection of beer though; no surprise, this is the northwest. Good hummus. Supposedly onion rings are good, but didn't try them. Next time. The place seemed kinda dingy, but you know what? I don't much care about that.

Awesome after-skiing stop for a drink. It's a true mountain bar, aka total dive-a-licious. If you're looking for fun and a lil' trouble, this is your stop. The food is so-so, but it's what you would expect for a bar. Don't forget to order at the bar or you might be waiting for awhile.

Charlie's, where everybody knows your name. Love this place - it's like a family reunion every time I step foot in there. Thank God for one of the last places in govey to hold onto it's personality. If you are not fond of dirty dive bars keep walking half a block to the Rat-Fir, Charlie won't miss you and they'll be happy to take your money. Winter - dependable Apres Ski entertainment...and consistent party mode until close (be on the look out for the non-elusive Govey Cougars). Watch your step heading out the front door, the first one is a doozey. Summer - Big seating area out front to watch the govey summer traffic and horse shoes out back. COLD beer - MMMM. ** Charlie's is not known for it's fine dining if you get my drift - but the drinks are always good.

Awesome dive bar where drinks are aplenty and cheap. There is a pool table, lots of leather couches and a jukebox. Perfect apres-ski venue. The bathrooms are dirty but the service is great, and the place just has such a laid back, Cheers-like vibe going on. The food is mostly fried and bad for you, but it's so good! Would definitely recommend this bar if you're in the area!

To the reviewer below me: Charlie's *is* a family reunion! If you've ever worked at Mt. Hood, this is the spot. Rainer tall cans are the best deal in the house, and at least pseudo-local. The bartenders tend to know everybody. The food smells really greasy...but the breakfast bloody marys are awfully tasty the next morning.

One thing I loved the moment we walked it was the instant feeling that you're back home at your local small town pub. The decorations are cozy, the drinks come slow. We loved watching the regular Friday night singer. His blues and classic rock was definately worth listening too. If you're ready to slow down, kick back & relax, this is a good place to go. There is only one pool table but fortunately there isn't a lot of competition to get it. We will be sure to come back again for a lazy time.

Charlie's is the bomb and one of the very very few places to chow down and drink in govy. Every time I come here I am always amazed at how nice the staff is and how cheap the tab is at the end of the night. If you go to the Hood to snowboard or ski then stop by Charlie's. If you here on Mondays go for the 3 4 3 tacos. Not a bad snack with a few cold ones. I have also had the Ruben several times and I always dig it. Had the fish and chips today and that was also great and lots to eat.. I'm not much in to dive bars but Charlie's is a legend in these parts and he's got it going on with this place...

they had good music the night we went. the drinks were ridiculously (high) priced. the place smells. and the worst part was the fraudulent charge to my credit card i discovered two days later. i called charlie and was assured it would be resolved and i would receive a call. neither happened. my advice, if you have to go there don't use your debit or credit card. and ask how much the drinks are before you buy a round for you and your friends.

The fam spent the 4th of July holiday weekend at Mt. Hood and after a day flying down the alpine slide and scaling new heights on the zip lines, we were completely famished and, thanks to my fellow Yelpers, we stopped at Charlie's Mountain view for "linner" (i.e. lunch/dinner). The restaurant side is small and plain, however don't let first impressions fool you. The food and service are great! We ordered a variety of sandwichs and pizza - all were good sized for the price. The one downer was that they were pretty busy in the pizza department so those of us who ordered sammiches ate first and then had to wait for the pizza peeps to get their food and eat, but it was worth it. (We weren't in a hurry anyway). We'd definitely be back.

What the hell is wrong with me?! I've been coming to the mountain since I was 5 and have never been here before! The perfect after mountain experience. Great bloody, tasty Ruben, friendly staff, warm fire, and tacky crap on the wall.

The look almost fooled me. Normally, I would stay away from dive bars but when you were sort of in the middle of nowhere around dinner time on sunday evening, your choices were quite limited. Out of places around Government Camp, this has the highest yelp rating (that was opened) so our hungry tummies took over :) You can get in from the bar area or dining room area. Patio was opened but after waiting for few minutes, we found out that no one will take your order unless you went inside to the bar. You can find typical bar food: burgers, sandwiches but they also have specials. We ordered 2 salads from the special (fresh mozzarella salad and grilled pear salad), swiss mushroom burger, and one of the fish entree. The salads were yummy and refreshing! the burger was good but I didn't care much for the fries that they gave with the burger. Some were cold and felt stale. The fish dish was pretty good. Pan fried fish with basmati rice and steamed broccoli on the side. Simple and filling. Maybe a bit too much of butter on the fish but overall, the food was good. i'll be coming back again next time

What everyone else said...don't let the looks fool you. Prices are by far cheaper than comparable places in town and the quality is great for a dive bar. We were there on quiet midweek summer day. It's easy to imagine that this place gets busy. The menu is fairly by the book, but the specials can be off the hook. Definitely a diamond in the rough.

Our family love's Charlie's - this place is the heart of Government Camp. The building was Darr's Ski Shop before Charlie moved in from the Rat. Every inch of this place is a testament to Alpine joy! If it hadn't been for my faith in yelp, I never would've walked in this place, but I am so glad that I did! After visiting Timberline Lodge, we were looking for a place to eat on our way back to Portland. Government Camp is a small town at the bottom of the ski lift to Timberline Lodge. It was pretty abandoned looking, but that is to be expected for a ski town on a Sunday in August. Charlie's looks like a typical biker bar from the front, complete with regulars smoking and propping the place up on the front patio. Inside is a wood paneled, lodge looking restaurant with mostly large tables to accommodate the ski crowds. The two of us took over a big table overlooking the gorgeous view out of the one back window. We seemed to be there right in between shifts because the person who started our order was on his way out and service was really slow. The first server was super friendly and assured us that we would be helped. We shared a coconut appetizer, an off menu pear salad (requested from the yelp reviews) and the mushroom burger. Everything was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. Coming from the bay area where a meal like that would've cost double, I really appreciated the laid back atmosphere with inexpensive, delicious food.

Bad vibes to start: We walked in to dirty tables, no one to tell us where to sit or give us menus. We finally saw a staff member and asked for a couple waters. We continued to wait 25min for him to come back and take our order, he never did. There were only 3 other tables, the table next to us who had arrived after us got up and left before ordering. He took the order for the table behind us told us he would 'be right back' about 3 times as he would walk by. The last straw was when he sat down with one of his friends at the table next to us and proceeded to discuss a remodeling project. We got up and left and went to the restaurant across the street.

The first thing that came to my mind when I entered this restaurant was Robert Duvall saying: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning". Not that I know what napalm smells like or that I liked what I smelled upon entering this joint. My little girl pinched her nose and started protesting: "What stinks?" The strong scent of pinesol and clorox was heavy enough to embalm a body. We went to the back of the restaurant to see if we could tolerate it. It was better, or by then our noses might have gotten accustomed to it. The kids were hungry from playing in the snow and I didn't want to keep searching. There are not many options around and going back to Hood River would have been about an hour. I ordered chicken tenders for the kids and a greek hamburger with a side salad for me. My husband had the muffaletta. The food came out, the tenders were your typical Sysco products. My hamburger was not horrible, however the salad was devoid of any crunch, the poor leaves lay limp on the side of my plate. They looked so sad. I know next time I come to play in the snow, I better pack a picnic basket.

One of my favorite bars on planet Earth. Charlie's is the place to be after a great day on the mountain, especially in the summer time after a session at High Cascade. $2 cans of Rainier go down smooth and the whole town shows up. Unless you're a skier. They go to the rat. Thankfully. The mood is always good, the drinks are cheap and you can get beer to go. Many a nights have been wasted and blackout forgotten at Charlie's, you should make sure you get one of those nights there as well.

This is the perfect, divey place to stop after a long hike. The service was friendly. I should have gone with the fish and chips, but went with the bartender's second choice, the tuna melt. If I weren't driving, it would have been the best spot to throw back a few. The cooks and servers were full of respect -- friendly and accommodating. The food was solid and the beer choices fun (lots of local and some cheapies for a fun night).

Not only does this place REEK of urine and stale cigarette smoke, we never got served after sitting in the "restaurant"before 10 minutes, then moving to a table in the bar for 12 minutes! After waiting for that amount of time, we left to shouts from the bartender to "go back to Portland!" Usually if I were to come to this place I would fit the description of it's average cliental, someone who just came off the Mountain, who was looking for a quick high calorie lunch.....As it was I hadn't gone up to govi that day to go skiing and I was just passing through. I was not ravenous with hunger and yet the food was simply amazing. I know that places can mess up hamburgers so when something so simple is put together so well I have to give due appreciation. I can't imagine the food having tasted any better than it did and yet I know that if I had been skiing that day the food would have tasted better and I am jealous of the boarder's who came in behind us because I know that they got the full force of the experience. Good burger, good fries, friendly service, clean bathrooms, clorox sterilized tables.....what more could you ask for?

This place shall forever be the greatest Bar / Saloon / Family Restaurant known to grace this planet Earth. Friendly waitstaff eager to provide you with excellent service. Amazing bartenders that pour fantastic drinks to one of the toughest crowds in the state of Oregon. Surly locals that won't take a lick of sass from any city folk. And hands down the most amazing decor you will ever experience in any establishment. Bear cage for patio seating in the front and a horseshoes pit in the back during the summer time. If you haven't stopped in for a Char - burger and gator taters you're surely missing out.

If I could go for 0 stars I would. It was a pretty slow night for a Saturday but I had heard great things and seen them on a list of best apré anything. We were seated and after waiting a while to have our order taken, the waitress finally came and asked what we would like for drinks. We ordered 2 bloody Mary's (no special order just two of the same house bloody Mary's), we were concerned by the amount of time she took to ask us what we wanted to drink so we made our dinner order at the same time. Club sandwich and prime rib dip. About 15 minutes later the waitress returned to tell us she couldn't remember what we ordered to drink. And then our food arrived. My boyfriend loved his club sandwich, I was displeased by the wonderbread on the prime rib but the fries and the potato skins were amazing. In walked a party of 8. As there was only one other table in the restaurant it didn't seem like things were getting crazy but after our cocktails were brought to us (long after we had finished dinner) the waitress told us if we needed anything, to speak now or it won't happen because she's going to be "too busy helping them". That wasn't even the worst. Clearly she hated her job that night but then we watched one of the cooks blow his nose into a towel while standing over the grill. And then sticking it back in his pocket and proceeding to cook without even washing his hands. I was bummed that this experience was so crummy. I hear they have a good nightlife/music scene but whatever you do. Don't order food unless you're a fan of mucus and maybe stick to staying over in the bar section.

This is a great place for a night of going out and drinking with your friends and family. The bartenders weren't especially friendly, but it was very busy both nights. Prices were good for drinks. Everyone at Charlie's was in great spirits, despite the lack of snow on the mountain. Both nights we were hung out here, there was a pretty even mix of young twenty somethings and older locals. One night there was a live band and all of the older women were dancing with the young guys. It was quite a scene. My only regret is that we didn't get any food.

Great mountain top dive bar, with the views you would expect being mountain top. Entering in, it feels like any run of the meal dive bar, even bordering on slightly campy feeling. But looks can be deceiving, and here they are. The food is way better than most dive bars, but doesn't have a larger price tag like you might expect. The service has never been less than exceptional, and they are very accommodating to food and beverage substitutions. I literally drive from Portland just to eat here, no other reason for coming all the way here then to eat here and go back to Portland. The BLT, Bacon Cheese Burger, and Fish & Chips are all really really good. You definitely need to check this place out if you're in the area.

You're more interested in offering deplorable customer service and belittling your clientele. OK cool. Say, can I eat the giant chip on your shoulder for dinner? I made guacamole, and really don't want to see it go to waste. At a landmark establishment such as Charlie's, we expected to be treated suitably. Charlie's is the jump-off. This is by no means an anti-Charlie's review. This is an anti-Charlie's bartender review. She's a living monster and has no place in the customer service industry. For now, we'll call her "Shayla." All nine of us are nice people. We pay taxes, work hard, and distribute our collective wealth among the townspeople of our chosen vacation destinations. But simple miscommunications lead to an ignorant, unprofessional, and unwarranted display by Shayla, which forced us to Ratskeller; a neighboring bar. Maybe she had a hard day. Maybe she had a hard year. But there is no justification for Shayla's behavior last night, and subsequent treatment she offered to her new and excited patrons. I hail from Portland, the land of terrible service. And I can say with unequivocal certainty that this is the single worst customer service experience of my 28 years in this state. Shayla hates fun. You have been warned.

I'm reviewing the family side. Both times we've gone here the food is excellent, the service is friendly accommodating and understated. Not in your face but always magically there when you need something. Kind and helpful. I ordered steak and my husband ordered the blue cheese burger. Both were excellent! Generous quantities and steak (perfect medium) served with high quality salad and fresh seasonal veggie's (asparagus, this time, cooked perfectly al dente), and a starch of your choice. Burger is high quality, no off flavors with bacon, blue cheese, fresh tomatoes, and red peppers which really added something special. I am surprised for a "dive" bar how fresh their ingredients are. I am usually not easily pleased at restaurants, but this place is awesome. Thanks!

This review is for the chowder: So, me and the fam went to the "family side" on a late summer night after visiting the mountain. I was SO surprised by the young chef. The clam chowder was really clammy and well seasoned. Everyone coveted my chowder. Servicemtook forever because 3 bridal parties had swamped the bar area. But yeah, I did not expect great chowder to come from a mountaintop bar. (Also, Mom said she liked her grilled chicken sandwich)

Great locals bar with a variety of bartenders and music selection. Don't like the current bartender or music, wait a few hours and it all changes. Go for weekend breakfast starting at 8am and the friendly bartender JJ will serve you good drinks and bottomless coffee. Only complaint is that he is famous for his crop dusting.

Charlie's is both a dive bar and family restaurant. The atmosphere is rustic: to the right is a separate dining area that is family friendly, to the left is the 21+ bar area with pool tables, dart boards, etc. The menu is small and hearty. The food comes out pretty slow so be prepared to savor the beers on tap while you wait. The prices are reasonable and the service is efficient. We have had every dish on the dinner menu and all were pretty good, especially for the location and type of restaurant. The standout dishes were the Oyster Shooters, ribeye steaks and prime rib special. The were very accommodating to the picky eater in our group. They practically made a new dish to satisfy her requirements. This is something I wouldn't expect a dive bar to do.

Where do I start??? Only 1 bartender and 1 waitress when the bar is packed. After all, it's Christmas week at Mt. Hood! We're waiting in line, finally get up to order 2 pints and when we asked what they are offering on tap, all we get is a shrug and a sweep of the bartender's hand over the taps. We looked and placed our order then made the mistake of asking for a menu which he tossed to us. Very personable. Not !!! Once we decided what we wanted we had to go back up to the rude bartender and gave him our order. You'd hope the bad stops here, but no. Our burgers arrive: my husband's burger is OK, but fries are cold. My burger is cold, the lettuce on the burger consisted of 2 romaine leaves, the tomatoes were 1/2" thick and we had to ask for the onion rings we had ordered. When we were ready to pay our bill, once again my husband had to go to the bar and the bartender couldn't locate our tab because he forgot how he filed it. McDonald's would have been better and sadly that doesn't say much.

I was very disappointed after our experience here. Our friends had talked the place up for breakfast and we were excited to try it. We arrived at 10:50 am but our server didn't attempt to take our order until 11:02am. He informed us no breakfast after 11. We were the only ones in the place. The server didn't attempt to see if we could still get breakfast. We settled on lunch and it was average at best. I was never offered a refill on my coffee and had to ask for cream. When I finally got some cream it was just a drop left in the container. Just awful service and again, we were the only ones there. Server seemed bothered that we interrupted his quite morning. We will go someplace else in the future.

How does this place get 4 stars? Do people actually like chicken tenders on a bun or chili out of a can (the empty can was visible in the recycling bin behind the counter). Pretty much no service either.

Best place to eat up on Mt. Hood. On your way back from the slopes you have to stop here. The menu is bigger than you'd expect a small place to have, which usually is a bad thing, but not here. They seem to do everything right! Their prime rib sandwich is killer. If this was any closer to my house I'd be a regular!

Decent food and inexpensive. The jalapeño poppers, fish n chips and mushroom burger are great. Nice selection of beers on tap - only $4 for a pint of microbrew. Beware , it's definitely more of a biker bar than restaurant but stick it out, it's worth sitting in the intense atmosphere for great food.

Was visiting Mt. Hood and saw the great reviews for Charlie's and had to stop for lunch. I had a fabulous BLT and the kids portions of chicken fingers were generous. The only downside was the single employee manning the restaurant. It took a while to get the orders taken, then a little while longer for the food (not too bad, though), but the wait for the check verged on irritating. If there were only one more person there to help out, this would be 5 star.

Service was awesome. Very friendly, very accommodating, and helpful. I got the asparagus salad after reading someone from Yelp got it....I LOVED the asparagus part, but the salad part of meh. I wish the salad had more asparagus and less leaves.... I got this rolled pasta thingy filled with tomato sauce, cheese, and spinach. It was pretty good. The portion size was huge....way too much food for small lil me. Oh, don't get the pinot noir though...that was pretty gross.
